Nathaniel's First Birthday

This party was sooo exciting to plan! My baby boy was turning one! I started planning with the intentions to DIY everything, but things don't always go as planned and that's totally okay. I was pleased with how everything turned out, regardless of how many things went wrong. As a mother celebrating her firstborn's first birthday, you expect everything to be flawless. A few months before Nate's big day, I was trying to come up with the perfect theme; I loved the idea of a Little Man Mustache Party!
Thanks to David Flores for the wonderful invitations!

Grey chevron was used as the backdrop and table runner from Girl Charlee. The two green and blue poms poms were hand made, If interested in a tutorial comment below. My original plan was to attach the backdrop onto the main wall of the hall, but after arriving realized the wall wasn't parallel with the room. I had no choice but to use a photography background stand.

The cupcakes were bought from a local supermarket and decorated with DIY printout topper and cupcake wrapper. The printout collection can be purchased through Etsy. Painted candlestick serving plate was used as a cupcake holder, we simply glued the candlestick holder to the wooden disc and spray painted it blue. Supplies can be found in the unfinished wood section at AC Moore. Sixlets candy over a white porcelain rectangular plate purchased at TJ Maxx.

I replaced the water bottle labels with printouts from the collection, and taped a mustache to each chevron straw, which can be purchased from Amazon.
One of my biggest disappointments, the CAKE! The main focus of any birthday party. I don't even need to explain what is wrong with the cake, just see for yourself! It looks nothing like what we asked for. There was a mustache on the top that looked like two pieces of dog poop, I kid you not! That explains the picture of Nate on the top. I was so upset, they agreed to give a full refund for our disappointment. Be aware Goehrigs Bakery

Nothing was more challenging than making rock candy, it was trial and error. It took us well over a week, but we finally got it right, and the results were great. If interested in how to make rock candy comment below and I'll post a tutorial.

The cake pops were also homemade with the chevron straws (Tutorial coming soon). Platforms were a box that we wrapped with blue chevron wrapping paper that can be purchased from Marshall's. Green porcelain plates were purchased from Pier 1 for a low price!

Everyone's favorite dessert were the chocolate covered Oreo's that were also homemade, you may be thinking this mama did a lot! I had a great team! Hubby and I were up till 4 AM the night before making sure that all the desserts were perfect like my vision! The Oreo stand was purchased from Pier 1.
The biggest DIY project mommy and daddy made was Nate's shirt, bow tie, and crown. We were extremely happy how it all turned out! Keep an eye out for a tutorial on that as well. To end this long detailed blog I want to thank everyone who attended our baby boy's first birthday and those who helped make this party a success. Most of all I want to thank the love of my life for putting up with all the party shopping and helping my vision come true!

  1. Many congratulations to the proud parents for the little one's birthday. Came to know about event venue Atlanta and thinking to hire one for my son's fifth birthday snacks party next weekend. Have to rush for all preparations as time is very less. Colors used will be bright ones only. Rainbow cake and sports accessory cup cakes are in my mind.
